What Is: Most of the major human population centers are located in coastal areas. A forty foot rise in ocean level would devastate the lives of literally billions of humans. In case you still haven't heard, that's what is expected if we fail to reverse Runaway Global Climate Change. Instead of focusing on what's wrong, let us take you into a world that you can begin creating right now, today, a world that will provide you and your family with a sustainable life style. Your well-being and the well-being of all of human society in incredibly interdependent. In other words, the way you live your life is absolutely dependent upon people you've never met, never seen, and and upon people you'll never meet and in many cases, you'll never even know they exist. Take your food, for example. How many of you know any farmers, or cattle ranchers, or any of the millions of people that stand between you and starvation? Here's the bottom line: Our survival is dependent upon the well-being of other people. We must create social structures big enough to meet at least our basic needs and small enough to be functional in national or global emergency. |

What Can Be: Future communities need to be located where where basic goods and services are available or where they can be made available, and where the infrastructures are safe from the effects title waves, sea level rising or any other major global climate change. There are many areas where these ingredients are presently available. There is also much presently untapped potential. In addition to the land, two of the key ingredients are energy and water. In order to be useful, they must both be at the same place at the same time. There are vast quantities of free energy coming directly from the sun arriving everyday, all day long on millions square miles of unpopulated semi-desert areas all over the world. This energy is mostly being ignored because we still don't know how to efficiently transport that energy to the population centers. There are all-but unlimited amounts of water available in the oceans. This water is presently unusable because of it's salt and pollution contents. We can separate the water from the salts, etc. using high-tech methods, but the requires a lot of energy and a lot of expensive equipment. We can easily with very simple technology separate water from the salts, etc. using evaporation facilities powered direct by sunlight. The water can then be used for any purposes, including, agriculture and home use. But there's still another problem. The land in coastal areas upon which to set up these facilities is extremely expensive. |
